Day 15

I intended to write daily about my physical and spiritual lessons from the fast, I did not.

I have maintained a totally vegan diet for the past 15 days, with the slight exception of a blob of sour cream I mostly scraped off of a black bean taco salad at Disneyland. Some sour cream stuck to my lettuce and it was in my mouth before I tasted it and realized I had betrayed a cow.

I momentarily gave into coffee on day 3 because I had a 16 hour work day and was sure I couldn't drive home without it, and I gave in to wine on Friday night because...because I wanted some wine.

I have not missed meat. I have lost 10 pounds. I have one week to go. I have learned to make choices that are healthy instead of grabbing whatever I find to shove into my fat face. Making a promise to God helps me, because without accountability I have no reason to keep promises to myself. I've been breaking promises to myself for decades.

Let's give God a shot...

On Sunday August 21st, our pastor Miles McPherson called on the church to join him in a 21 day fast and time of prayer for the city and for personal issues. My husband Jeff and I decided we'd like to participate, and agreed to eat a totally vegan diet for 21 days - fruits, vegetables, unprocessed whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds. No animal products of any sort, all organic, nothing processed. We purchased a book so we could have the 21 days of devotions to go along with our fast.

I decided on my own, knowing the rambling nature of my own soul, to also eliminate coffee, secular rock music, and wine even though it's made from grapes and sometimes organic. :)

And so I begin.
